As gig workers from Zomato, Swiggy, Blinkit, Zepto, Amazon and Flipkart are going on strike, the New Year celebrations will be affected. The plans of customers are likely to be damaged as the workers are on strike on this day, which is the highest sales day of the year. Some unions in parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Delhi, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu also supported it. Workers say that while working hours are increasing, income is steadily decreasing. Lack of job security, accident insurance, lack of respect and lack of safety are the main allegations. They allege that companies are not giving due priority to delivery partners who form the backbone of India&#8217;s digital market.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Impact on New Year celebrations:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Online delivery platforms such as Swiggy, Zomato, Flipkart, Blinkit will be severely affected as Gir workers are on strike. Customers may not receive deliveries. Grocery and food deliveries will be affected. Food orders may be delayed or cancelled. Metro cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune as well as tier-2 cities are likely to be affected.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What should consumers do?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Ahead of the New Year celebrations, delivery platforms are running promotional offers. Customers are advised to store their products. For New Year celebrations and other needs, consumers are better off resorting to nearby shops. Customers may need to be prepared for dynamic or surge pricing until midnight during New Year&#8217;s Eve. There is a chance that the delivery time on December 31 will increase more than before.
