Kashibugga Stampade: The stampede incident at Kashibugga in Srikakulam district shocked the state. 9 people were killed and many were seriously injured in this accident due to the crowd of devotees. Minister Nara Lokesh visited the incident site and visited the injured who are being treated in the hospital.<\/p>\n
Lokesh assured that the government will support the affected families in all ways. Financial assistance of Rs.15 lakhs was announced for the families of the dead and Rs.3 lakhs for the injured. Minister Lokesh said that the 94-year-old man built this temple at his own expense. “No one could have imagined that such a large number of devotees would come. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is personally monitoring the incident,” he said.<\/p>\n
The Kashibuga Venkateswara Swamy Temple is located on the first floor of the sanctum sanctorum. Devotees climb about 20 steps to visit. On Saturday, due to the increase in the number of devotees, the railing on the stairs suddenly collapsed. There was a stampede as the devotees ran fearing that the railing would fall. 8 women and one boy died in this incident. Another 20 people are being treated in the hospital with serious injuries.<\/p>\n
Among the deceased are Chinnamma from Rameswaram of Tekkali mandal, Rapaka Vijaya from Pattilsari village, Neelamma from Vajrapukottur mandal, Rajeshwari from Mandasa, Brindavathi, Yashodamma from Nandigam mandal, Nikhil from Sompet and Ammulu from Palasa. The injured have been shifted to Palasa and Tekkali hospitals and are being treated. Harimukund Panda, manager of the temple, said that usually two thousand devotees come a day, but on Saturday around 25 thousand people came and there was a stampede. <\/p>\n
“If we had known in advance that so many people would come, we would have informed the police. The fact that the queue to go to darshan and the way back is the same led to the accident,” he explained. Officials also believe that the ongoing construction work is the cause of the accident.
