Ragging: An incident of ragging has come to light at Mittapalli Surabhi Medical College in Siddipet Urban Mandal. It is reported that Sai (18), a first year MBBS student who joined the college on 17th of this month, was ragged by the second year students of the same college. When the seniors asked why he had grown a beard, the aggrieved student accused him of cutting his beard with a trimmer without listening to God’s blessing. Not stopping at this, he revealed that he threatened him in the classroom that it would not be good if he grew a beard again.

The student expressed his concern that even when he went to the anti-ragging committee to complain about the ragging, the authorities were supporting the seniors only. He said that the seniors abused him for complaining. The incident came to light when the student’s parents filed a police complaint. At present, the Siddipet Three Town Police have conducted an investigation at the college. Despite anti-ragging laws in force, students and parents are expressing concern that such incidents are continuing in educational institutions.
