There was a terrible fire in Hong Kong. 13 people died in a fire in a high-rise apartment building in a housing complex. Others were trapped under the debris, the city fire department said. Officials said nine people died at the scene, while four were later confirmed dead at the hospital. At least 15 people were injured. Around 700 people were evacuated to safer places.

According to records, the housing complex consists of eight blocks with around 2,000 flats, in which around 4,800 people are reported to be living. The fire broke out in the afternoon and after dark officials raised the alarm to level 5, the highest severity level, the fire department said. The fire continued to burn till nightfall. 128 fire engines and 57 ambulances were dispatched to the spot. Fire Department Director Andy Yang told reporters that one firefighter was among the dead and another was being treated for heat exhaustion.
