Mangli: SR Nagar Police has arrested a man for making obscene and insulting comments on popular folk singer Mangli on social media. Mangli Swayamga filed a complaint at SR Nagar police station and a case was registered. A Madipally star posted a video on Instagram dancing to the recently released super hit Mangli song “Bailona Balli Palike”. Mangli, in her complaint, claimed that in the video, Mangli was taunted, denigrated the song and insulted the ST community to which she belonged.

As this video went viral, Mangli’s fans were furious. The SR Nagar police immediately responded and detained the Medipally star and are conducting an investigation. A case has been registered under other sections including the SC/ST Atrocities Act in connection with the comments made to hurt the dignity of women and insult Scheduled Tribes. Reacting to the incident, Mangli said, “My songs bring joy to people, but such vile comments hurt. As a woman and a person from the ST community, I cannot tolerate such insults. I believe the law will take its course.” Currently, police investigation is going on in this case. The police have warned that strict action will be taken if hateful comments are made against women and tribal social groups on social media.
