IND vs SA: India registered a thrilling win in the first ODI against South Africa in Ranchi. Despite Virat Kohli’s brilliant century to set up a huge score for India, South Africa fought back and gave India a scare. But finally Team India won by 17 runs. After losing the toss and batting first, Team India scored 349 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. Opener Yashaswi Jaiswal (18) got out early, while another opener Rohit Sharma (51 off 57 balls) excelled. However, the backbone of India’s innings was a classic innings by Virat Kohli (135 off 120 balls, 17 fours, 3 sixes). With this, Virat Kohli registered his 52nd century in ODIs. While Ruthuraj Gaikwad (8) and Washington Sundar (13) failed in the middle, skipper KL Rahul (60 off 56 balls, 7 fours, 2 sixes) provided good support to Kohli. In the end, Ravindra Jadeja (32 off 20 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) shone as India posted a huge score of 349 runs. Among the South African bowlers, Nandre Burger, Marco Janssen, Corbin Bosch and Otneil Bateman took 2 wickets each.

South Africa, who came in to chase a huge target of 350 runs, suffered a huge setback in the beginning. Ryan Rickelton (0), Quinton de Kock (0), then Aiden Markram (11) lost wickets for just 7 runs. At one stage, Peekallothu was in trouble, losing 4 wickets for 77 runs. But Tony De Georgi (39) and Devald Brevis (37) held up the innings to some extent. After that, all-rounders Marco Janssen (39 off 70 balls, 5 fours, 6 sixes) and Corbin Bosch (51 off 67 balls) played aggressively and caused concern among the Indian fans. Together these two took the match to the end with a lightning innings. But the rest of the batsmen failed and South Africa were bowled out for 332 runs in 49.2 overs. Among the Indian bowlers, Harshit Rana performed brilliantly with 3 wickets, while senior spinner Kuldeep Yadav took 4 key wickets and gave victory to India. Arshadeep Singh 2 took two wickets in the end to complete South Africa’s collapse. India won the thrilling match to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.
