Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the first Deputy Prime Minister of independent India and the Home Minister of Bardoli. Patel solved the uncertainty and disunity created in the country after independence with his acumen. The British, who adopted the policy of divide and rule from the beginning, divided the great India into two parts on the basis of religion. Along with this, self-determination was also given to the institutions of the country. According to this, the colonies could merge into the Union of India or act independently if they chose. “You can either merge with India or…Pakistan or you can rule your own kingdoms.” This gave the colonists immense power. Who started raising the flag. Above all, Pakistan eyed key cities like Hyderabad, Junagadh and Kashmir. If they merge in Pakistan, there will always be unrest, instability and conflict. In a country that should be like one house, should we bear the fire of so many separate fires? This is not possible.. The mother of all the child kingdoms should be included in India’s lap… The whole country should be one. For this purpose, the ‘State Department’ of the Center has been formed.

By 1947 there were 565 Swadeshi Santhanas in the country. Apart from Kashmir, Junagadh and Hyderabad, the rest became an integral part of the Indian Union unconditionally due to Patel’s efforts. Patel worked hard to merge the other three states into India. The most important of these is the Hyderabad State. The seventh Nizam, Mir Usman Ali Khan, who is known as one of the richest men in the world, started efforts to make Hyderabad a Muslim state. With their own currency, railway and military systems, the idea of keeping Hyderabad’s independence constitution is true. After waiting for some time, the Nizam proposed to merge Hyderabad into the Union of India. Suspicious of the Nizam’s attitude, Patel did not agree. On the other hand Nizam approached the United Nations to be an independent country. In the Nizam’s kingdom, the Razakars created all sorts of religious disturbances and terrorized the people of that region. However.. Patel is determined to merge the Hyderabad state into India anyway. Operation Polo started with this.

According to an estimate, the Nizam had 30,000 soldiers by the time of World War II. Along with them there are three armor regiments, cavalry, 11 infantry battalions, one artillery and up to ten military regiments. Along with them, there are about 2 lakhs of Rajakars. 50,000 of them have weapons like guns and talwars. In addition to this, the Nizam had already intensified his efforts to purchase weapons from abroad. Months before Operation Polo, the Nizam asked his army chief, Idrus, how long they would be able to resist if the Indian army attacked them. Idrus replied that even a single day would be difficult. With this, the Nizam issued orders to increase the number of Rajakars along with the army. But there are a hundred crores of doubts that the Nizam’s army will stand before the Indian army at all.

In the early morning of September 13, the Indian army tried to penetrate the Hyderabad city from five sides. The Indian Army entered the Nizam’s stronghold on the Vijayawada-Hyderabad route with large tanks. On another route, the Indian forces under the command of JN Chaudhary from Solapur rushed towards Hyderabad. There are four types of forces in the Indian Army namely Strike Force, Smash Force, Kill Force and Veer Force. First, Indian fighter jets bombed Osmanabad, Warangal and other airports in Hyderabad. Nizam’s planes were completely destroyed by this. The Indian forces, who first attacked the Nizam’s military posts with tanks, then quickly penetrated into the Nizam’s establishment. India’s first bullet hit the Nizam’s sentry outside the Osmanabad jail and he collapsed there. At the same time, there was widespread publicity about the attack by the Indian Army. The Nizam’s army was unable to face the Indian army. But the Indian army is taking control of each town… Nizam has spread false news. He spread rumors that the Nizam’s army would win. Finally, on September-17, the Indian forces under the command of JN Chaudhary reached Patancheruvu, a suburb of Hyderabad. With this, the Nizam’s commander-in-chief, Idrus, announced his surrender.

The Nizam was greatly alarmed when he heard the news that the Indian army had entered Hyderabad. The Nizam was no longer in a position to trust anyone. Immediately the Indian ambassador called Munshi and told him that he was surrendering. Munshi informed Home Minister Patel about Nizam’s surrender. Patel was very smart in the process of Nizam’s surrender. In particular, on September-18th, the United Nations was supposed to hear the petition filed by the Nizam against India. Patel’s idea was to bring the Nizam’s surrender to the attention of the international community before the trial could take place. That is why Patel announced the surrender on Deccan Radio through the Nizam with the help of Indian Ambassador Munshi in Hyderabad. Nizam made very important comments in this announcement.

With the announcement of the Nizam’s surrender, the Hyderabad State’s petition in the United Nations was dismissed. Nizam’s announcement on Deccan Radio that he was withdrawing his petition was also broadcast on BBC Radio. After that the hearing on this petition was kept pending. Until 1979, this petition was pending at the United Nations. After that the petition was dismissed. The surrendered Nizam’s army commander Idrus was appointed as an officer on special duty by the Indian army. Qasim Razvi was arrested and sent to jail. Later Rizvi left for Pakistan. The Nizam, who surrendered to the Indian army, declared that he had nothing to do with the Rajakars. The Indian government seriously discussed what to do with the surrendered Nizam. Patel decided that for the time being, the administration would be carried out in the name of Nizam Raju. General JN Chaudhary was appointed as Military Governor and entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the administration. Indian laws came into force in Hyderabad State from September-17, after the completion of Operation Polo. Especially the tricolor flag fluttered proudly on Telangana soil. Later, the Government of India appointed the Nizam as the Raj Pramukh of Hyderabad. He continued in that position until his death.
