The Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team created history by beating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday (November 2). This is the second highest score in Women’s World Cup final history. Openers Smriti Mandhana (45) and Shafali Verma (87) put on a partnership of 104 runs. Shafali played an excellent innings of 78 balls with 7 fours and 2 sixes. Jemima Rodrigues, Harmanpreet were dismissed early and Deepti Sharma (58) held the innings. At the end, Richa Ghosh (24) put India in a strong position with a quick innings.

When this last wicket fell, the entire Indian team was immersed in celebrations.
