HYDRAA is accelerating its activities with the aim of preserving the historical heritage of the city of Hyderabad and bringing back its former glory to the disappearing water resources. As part of this, HYDRA has announced its full cooperation for the restoration of ‘Katora House’, a 450-year-old historical water source in the Golconda Fort premises. Hydra Commissioner Ranganath himself visited this Katora House, which is currently under the care of the Central Archeology Department (ASI), and reviewed the conditions there. Expressing his concern that this water source with a centuries-old history is currently full of garbage and sewage, he directed the authorities to take immediate steps to protect it.

On this occasion, Ranganath specially congratulated the representatives of NGO ‘Nirman’ who came forward for the restoration of Katora House. As part of the plan to conserve this water body, it was initially decided to erect a high fencing around the tank to prevent anyone from throwing garbage into it. This not only preserves the water quality but also ensures that the area remains clean. Also, it is proposed to develop a beautiful pathway around the water body to attract the visitors. This provides a great spiritual and historical experience to the tourists visiting Golconda.

At present the main problem in Katora House is sewage flow. Ranganath made it clear to the authorities that an alternative route should be found for the sewage pipeline passing through this historical water body and strict measures should be taken to prevent sewage water from entering the water body. He stated that conservation of historical water resources is essential not only for tourism development but also for groundwater recharge and to pass on the heritage of the city to the future generations. It is clear on this occasion that HYDRA will fully cooperate with the coordination of the Central Archeology Department and other voluntary organizations to restore the former glory of Katora House.
